Craveiro Lopes Viewpoint
Updated: 16 Mar 2026
Craveiro Lopes Viewpoint, located on the north coast of Flores, offers one of the most rare and moving views in the entire Azores archipelago: the sighting of Monchique Islet, the westernmost point in Europe, a volcanic rock formation that emerges from the Atlantic a few kilometres offshore and that geographically marks the western boundary of the European continent. On days of good visibility, the perspective over this isolated islet is one of impressive solemnity.
The viewpoint has basic support structures, including a parking area and interpretive panels that contextualise the geographical importance of the site. Access is by road from the north coast of the island. Visibility conditions are more favourable during the morning and summer months, although foggy days, frequent on Flores, create an equally fascinating atmosphere of discovery.
Craveiro Lopes Viewpoint combines well with a visit to the Lakes of Flores and with the exploration of Fajรฃ Grande, composing an itinerary along the north and west coasts of the island in a single day.
