Poco da Alagoinha
Updated: 16 Mar 2026
Poรงo da Alagoinha is a volcanic lagoon of more intimate dimensions than the great lakes of Flores, but no less impressive, nestled between verdant cliffs covered by dense Atlantic vegetation and fed by natural springs that keep its waters cold and crystal-clear throughout the year. It is one of the best-kept secrets of the island and a favourite destination of more adventurous visitors.
Access to Poรงo da Alagoinha requires a hike over irregular terrain and some physical ability, which helps keep the site relatively preserved and with lower tourist traffic. The lagoon allows bathing in a wild setting and it is possible to jump from the surrounding rocks in several places. Bring appropriate shoes, swimming attire and a towel, and be prepared to be without mobile signal in this remote area of the island.
Poรงo da Alagoinha is frequently visited together with Poรงo do Bacalhau and can be included in the route of the Trail from Fajรฃ Grande to Ponta Delgada for a complete day of adventure on the coast of Flores.
