Vista do Rei Viewpoint is widely considered the most spectacular observation point in the Azores and one of the most impressive in all of Macaronesia. Located on the northern rim of the Seven Cities caldera, on Sรฃo Miguel, it offers a 180-degree panoramic view over the Lake of Seven Cities, simultaneously revealing the two lakes of distinct colours, the volcanic caldera and the Atlantic Ocean in the background.

The name of the viewpoint evokes the visit of King Carlos I in 1901, who was so amazed by the landscape that the place came to be called Vista do Rei. There is a renovated viewpoint with an observation platform, informational panels and a small refreshment space. Access is by car along the road that climbs the caldera from the village of Seven Cities, with free parking at the site.

For a truly memorable experience, it is recommended to visit in the early morning hours, when clouds sometimes form a cotton blanket over the lakes, creating dreamlike landscapes. The viewpoints in the area are equally accessible on foot via the Canรกrio Forest Trail, combining hiking and contemplation in a single visit. On clear days, visibility extends to the island of Faial, more than 200 kilometres away.
