Serra do Cume Viewpoint
Updated: 16 Mar 2026
Serra do Cume Viewpoint is one of the most famous and photographed observation points on the island of Terceira, located at the highest point of Serra do Cume, at about 545 metres altitude, in the northeast zone of the island. From this viewpoint you can see the iconic patchwork landscape โ the quilt formed by hundreds of agricultural fields delimited by hedges of blue hydrangeas and walls of volcanic stone.
On clear days, it is possible to contemplate the entire bay of Praia da Vitรณria and, in the distance, the extensive sand beach that gave it its name. The visual spectacle is especially impressive at the end of the day, when golden light highlights the green tones of the fields and the deep blue of the Atlantic Ocean. The landscape is considered one of the most representative of the Azores and frequently appears in tourism promotion campaigns for the archipelago.
Access is by car or motorbike, via secondary roads well signposted from the EN1-1A. There is no entry fee. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon, avoiding the busiest hours during the summer months. It is recommended to bring a jacket, as the wind at the summit can be intense even on hot days. A compulsory stop for all who visit Terceira.
