Simao Dias Natural Pools

The Natural Pools of Simão Dias are one of the jewels of the north coast of São Jorge, formed by volcanic lava that created rock pools protected from Atlantic waves, allowing safe bathing in clear water and pleasant temperature during the summer months. The complex includes support facilities such as changing rooms, a bar and a socialising area, making it a very popular family destination among residents and island visitors.

The water in the pools warms throughout the day and reaches comfortable temperatures between July and September. Access is by road and there is free parking nearby. Admission may have a symbolic maintenance cost during the bathing season. Bring high-factor sunscreen, as the reflection from dark rock and exposure to Atlantic sun are intense.

The pools are located near other points of interest on the north coast of São Jorge, being a perfect complement to a day that includes a visit to Fajã dos Cubres.
