Terra Alta Viewpoint is one of the most contemplated observation points on the island of Pico, offering a wide panoramic view over the UNESCO-classified wine landscape, the Pico-Faial channel and the silhouette of the island of Faial in the background.

Located in an elevated position over the northwest coast of the island, the viewpoint provides a clear reading of the geometry of the lava walls โ€” the black basalt walls that organize the vines into regular plots from the coast to the slopes โ€” creating an aerial perspective that complements the ground-level experience offered by the Trail of Vines of Criaรงรฃo Velha. On clear days, Faial appears with clarity just a few kilometres away, and the grandeur of Pico Mountain, when not covered by clouds, closes the framing.

Access is by car via the regional road that runs along the northwest coast, with parking available near the viewpoint. There are no tickets or opening hours โ€” the site is always accessible. The best light for photography occurs in early morning, when the morning mist dissipates over the vines. The sunset seen from the viewpoint, with Faial darkening on the horizon, is equally memorable. The visit integrates well into an itinerary that includes the UNESCO landscape and a Pico Wine tasting at a local cellar.
