Praia da Vitoria Beach
Updated: 16 Mar 2026
Praia da Vitรณria is the largest sand beach on the island of Terceira and one of the most extensive in the Azores, characterised by its calm and warm waters, protected by the natural bay that lends it its name. Located on the eastern coast of the island, next to the city of Praia da Vitรณria, this beach is ideal for families with children and for those seeking a tranquil swim.
The sandy area is accompanied by an animated seafront promenade with restaurants, cafรฉs and leisure areas, creating a relaxed atmosphere typical of Azorean villages. Proximity to the urban centre facilitates access to services, and it is possible to arrive on foot or by bicycle. In the summer months, the beach has lifeguard cover and properly equipped bathing zones.
The bathing season extends from June to September, with water temperatures reaching between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius. In addition to swimming, the bay is much sought after for nautical sports such as kayaking, paddle and windsurfing. Those who want to explore more of the island can complement the visit with a trip to the Natural Pools of Biscoitos, a very different experience on the north coast of Terceira.
