Nossa Senhora da Conceicao Viewpoint

The Nossa Senhora da Conceição Viewpoint is one of the most popular observation points on Faial, located on a hillside above the city of Horta, with a panoramic view over the bay, the port, Marina da Horta and the channel that separates Faial from Pico.

The site takes its name from the historic chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição that stands there, a landmark of Azorean religious architecture with a white façade and simple silhouette characteristic of rural chapels on the islands. The ensemble — chapel, garden and viewing terrace — creates a space of contemplation that combines the spiritual dimension with the stunning natural and urban landscape. In the background, the Mountain of Pico, when not obscured by clouds, dominates the horizon with majestic presence.

Access is by car along the road that climbs from the centre of Horta, with parking available near the viewpoint. On foot, the climb takes about 20 to 30 minutes from the marina and is travelled by many visitors in early morning or late afternoon. The sunset seen from here, with Pico silhouetted against the orange sky over the channel, is one of the most photographed images in the Azores. Admission is free and the viewpoint is accessible throughout the year.
