Porto da Casa is the only natural port and the main bathing zone of Corvo, a multifunctional space where the maritime life of the island concentrates and where Corvo children grow up swimming between black rocks and fishermen's boats. Located on the south coast of the island, the port is a basalt structure that shelters some dozens of small artisanal fishing boats, and its surroundings offer some of the island's best natural pools โ€” rock formations that trap sea water and create bathing conditions calm even when the Atlantic is agitated. The contrast between dark basalt, white foam and intense ocean blue is visually stunning.

Porto da Casa is not a sand beach โ€” Corvo has no sandy beaches โ€” but rather a rock bathing area, typical of the most western Azores islands. Admission is free and there are no formal beach bars or services, which maintains the site in a state of purity and rare tranquility. The bathing season runs from July to September, when water temperature reaches 22โ€“24 ยฐC. Outside these months, the port can be visited for landscape contemplation and observation of fishing activities.

Porto da Casa is also the departure point for the Corvo-Flores Boat Trip, the sea crossing linking the two islands of the western group of the Azores, and for diving and snorkelling trips in waters rich with marine life. To access the port, walk from Vila do Corvo in about 10 minutes, following the main road south. Consult our section of adventure for more aquatic activities.
